      Useful information

      Frequently asked questions (F.A.Q.)

What is exactly considered a "Multi-pitch Route"?

These are multi-pitch climbing itineraries where it is necessary to build intermediate belay stations to progress to the summit. Unlike sport climbing, here rope management, logistics, and height play a fundamental role in the experience.

What physical and technical level do I need to do a multi-pitch route?

You don't need to be an elite climber. We have options for all levels: from very affordable introductory routes to committing big walls. The only requirement is not to be afraid of heights and to be used to walking in mountain terrain.

Do I need to know how to build belay stations to hire a guide?

It is not necessary. The guide takes care of all the logistics, building the belay stations, and the safety of the rope party. You will always climb as the "second," with the security provided by the rope from above at all times.

How is the descent managed on a multi-pitch route?

It depends on the route. Some descents are done by walking along the ridge behind the mountain, while others require multiple rappels down the route itself. The guide will instruct and supervise you on each rappel to ensure a safe and smooth descent.

What specific gear do I need to bring for a multi-pitch route?

To do a multi-pitch route with us, you do not need to bring specific technical gear. At Pirineu Vertical, we provide all the necessary equipment for the activity: helmet, harness, ropes, safety gear, and also climbing shoes if you need them.
The only recommended items are comfortable clothing, comfortable footwear (preferably mountain shoes), sunscreen, sunglasses, and water. We will carry the main backpack with the gear and water so you can climb lighter and more comfortably throughout the day.
If you have your own gear and prefer to use it because you are used to it, you can bring it without any problem. Before starting, we will check that everything is in good condition and suitable for the activity.

How many people can go with a single guide?

We normally work with a maximum ratio of 1 guide for every 2 clients, as it is the safest, most comfortable, and most efficient way to move on multi-pitch routes.

However, in some specific courses or activities, larger groups can be formed, depending on the participants' level and the type of activity, always with the constant accompaniment and supervision of the guide.

Can we do a specific traditional route that I have in mind?
Of course. If you dream of climbing a specific route, we will accompany you. We will analyze your experience and adapt the logistics so you can achieve your goal.
What happens if we get caught in the rain or bad weather halfway up the wall?

The guide checks the forecasts and knows the "escape routes" for each itinerary. If the weather changes abruptly, the decision will be made to rappel or exit via the fastest and safest route possible, always prioritizing your safety.

How long does a multi-pitch climbing day normally last?

The duration of a multi-pitch day depends heavily on the type of route, the difficulty level, the approach, and the group's pace. There are simple, accessible routes that can easily be done in a morning or an afternoon, especially in summer when the days are longer.
On the other hand, other activities may require a full day: longer approaches, more demanding routes, or ascents in high mountain environments and National Parks. In any case, we will always adapt the proposal to the group's level and the type of experience you are looking for.

Will I learn self-rescue maneuvers or how to build belay stations?

Although guided trips focus on the ascent, during the day the guide will explain why they make certain technical decisions. If your goal is to learn these specific maneuvers, we recommend checking out our multi-pitch autonomy courses.

      What does the activity include?

      Certified climbing guide
      Collective technical gear
Individual technical gear (climbing shoes included)
      Accident and public liability insurance
      Photo report of the experience
      Prior advice and logistics

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and appropriate mountain footwear. We will personally advise you on what to bring depending on the activity.
