Want to learn sport climbing techniques?
If you are looking to start climbing autonomously, understand safety maneuvers, and gain confidence on the rock, the sport climbing initiation course is the best starting point.
Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)
Sport climbing is usually done on single-pitch routes: you climb from the ground to the anchor, your partner belays you from below, and then lowers you back to the ground. Each route is independent and you do not progress further up the wall beyond that pitch.
In contrast, in multi-pitch or traditional climbing, the goal is to progress up a wall by climbing several consecutive pitches. The rope team moves up from anchor to anchor until reaching the end of the route, managing the progression, gear, anchors, and the descent.
There is no minimum level. We can work from total initiation on fourth and fifth grade routes, up to technical refinement on seventh grade projects or higher. Guiding adapts completely to your current capabilities.
Absolutely. Managing the fear of falling is one of the pillars of sport climbing. We teach you dynamic falling techniques and active belaying methods to build the necessary confidence so you can climb at your true limit without mental blocks.
Yes. At Pirineu Vertical, we provide all the necessary equipment for the activity: helmet, harness, ropes, belay devices, and also climbing shoes if you need them.
You only need to bring comfortable clothing, comfortable footwear (preferably mountain shoes), water, and a desire to climb.
If you already have your own gear and want to bring it, no problem: we will check it before starting to make sure it is in good condition for the activity.
Yes, although we will advise you based on the time of year and your objective.
Catalonia is a world-class sport climbing paradise because you can climb all year round. In winter, we look for sun-facing walls in the south or the Pre-Pyrenees, and in summer, we head up to the high mountains or look for shaded sectors with a breeze.
Yes. This is one of the progressions we work on the most during our courses. We teach you how to lead climb safely and progressively, learning the maneuvers, rope management, and wall safety from the ground up.
To do this, we use techniques such as top-roping with a simulated lead: climbing with a top rope while also practicing clipping quickdraws as if you were leading. This allows you to learn the movements, logistics, and necessary confidence without the risk of a fall.
We work with a maximum of 6 people per guide.
What does the activity include?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and appropriate mountain footwear. We will advise you personally on what to bring depending on the activity.
